Along its coastline you can find beaches of different types, with a variety of activities on offer. It has a surface area of 557 km² and is situated at an altitude of 764 m above sea level. It stands out for its depth (464 m maximum depth) and its eight branches or arms: Campanario, Tristeza, Blest, Machete, del Rincón, Última Esperanza, Angostura and Huemul. It is related to other less extensive lakes, such as the Gutiérrez (16.4 km²), the Moreno (16.4 km²), the Espejo and the Correntoso (27 km²). It is fed by snowmelt and is the source of the Limay River. It has several islands, the largest and most important for its tourist activity being Victoria Island, of 31 km².
