Centinela Island is a small islet located in Lake Nahuel Huapi, Nahuel Huapi National Park in Argentina.
The island is about 250 m long and 100 m wide, and is located at the entrance to the Blest Arm in front of the Llao Llao peninsula. Centinela Island stands out because it is the resting place of the remains of Dr. Francisco Pascasio Moreno, who was a very important Argentinean scientist, naturalist, conservationist, politician, botanist, explorer and geographer.
Centinela Island has a small pier, and only a simple white cross can be seen when sailing near it. The tourist boats that pass by it daily on their way to Puerto Blest sound their sirens as they pass in front of the island as a sign of homage to Dr. Moreno, who with his donation of land laid the foundation of what is today the Nahuel Huapi National Park.
