Lake Gutierrez has an approximate surface of 1640 ha, and occupies a valley surrounded by the Otto, Catedral and Ventana hills.
It receives water from the streams that flow down from Cerro Catedral and the Ñirihuau range. Its waters are relatively warm, since its main source of water is not the melting of winter snows, but winter-spring rains. For that reason, this lake is, together with the Moreno Lake, a favourite destination for water sports and swimming. It has several beach areas, many of them accessible by paved roads.
