It is located in the Nahuel Huapi National Park, inside the Mascardi Lake and in front of Cerro Tronador.
Legend has it that the heart-shaped island was formed over 300 years ago when two members of feuding native communities fell in love and decided to run away together.
When it was discovered, were ordered to be captured.
That is why, the couple decided to dive into Mascardi cold waters, with the intention of swimming to the other shore. However, their efforts were not enough, they sank and lost their lives. The heart-shaped island was then formed at that specific point.
