It stands out for its depth (464 m maximum depth) and its eight branches or arms: Campanario, Tristeza, Blest, Machete, del Rincón, Última Esperanza, Angostura and Huemul. It is related to other less extensive lakes, such as Gutiérrez (16.4 km²), Moreno (16.4 km²), Espejo and Correntoso (27 km²). It is fed by snowmelt and is the source of the Limay River. It has several islands, the largest and most important for its tourist activity is Isla Victoria,
